Instrument copyright and licensing

Outcome measures are copyrighted works. Some are released free by their developers, some are licensed commercially, and the distinction matters to anyone using them in a study, a product or a clinic.

Almost no calculator site states this. We do, per instrument, because it is the first question a researcher asks — and because publishing it keeps us honest about what we are entitled to reproduce.

This is our working record, not legal advice, and not a substitute for your own licence. If you are using an instrument in a funded study or a commercial product, go to the rights holder directly. Where we know who that is, we link to them on the instrument’s page.
